Young Naturalist Awards

Purpose:

 

To reward students for their research-based essays to promote participation and communication in science.

Eligibility:

 

Applicants must be students in grade 7 through 12 who are currently enrolled in a public, private, parochial or home school in the United States, Canada, U.S. territories or in a U.S.-sponsored school abroad. The essays must be based on studies in school or an educational program and the theme that is the same every year: "Scientific Discovery Begins with Expeditions!" Students may choose a topic in biology, earth science or astronomy and take an expedition to an area where they can explore their topic. Each essay must include a list of references. Essays are judged primarily on scientific merit.
